How to understand and develop children’s emotions, thinking and behaviours

About the book
How to understand and develop children’s emotions, thinking and behaviours
How can we help our children:
- become more resilient?
- get over mistakes?
- develop a positive outlook?
And, what can we do to become better role models?
Children usually don’t welcome their own unhelpful Chimp activity. They just don’t understand how to manage it…If we can distinguish between the child and the machine in their mind, this will help us to see the child’s behaviour in a different light.
Prof Steve Peters uses his Chimp Mind Management Model to help parents, teachers and carers understand the neuroscience behind unconscious beliefs and habits that may be silently guiding children’s emotions, thinking and behaviours.
The Silent Guides explores ten positive habits and many related themes taken from the children’s educational book My Hidden Chimp. Prof Steve Peters helps challenge unhelpful behaviours such as:
- being overly self-critical
- fear of failure
- low self-esteem
What are the Silent Guides
What Other Say
It makes you see your child’s behaviour in a whole new light. Rather than finding my children’s tantrums truly irritating, I now take on board the fact there is a Chimp taking over their immature brains. I now have more patience and understanding when the tantrums hit. Unless, of course, I am in a busy supermarket 😉
If you’re a parent – read this, if you’re a teacher – read this. This book gives you so many strategies to talk, to understand and to help your child or pupil. The ideas are so easy to incorporate into the way you deal with children that you will see the benefits straight away. When my child, grandson, student tantrums I used to try really hard to find a way to work my way through what to do. Since I’ve read this book I’ve been able to turn the worst tantrum around and bring my gorgeous grandson/ daughter, student child around. As a parent, teacher, or anyone who looks after children then please read this.
Already a fan of Prof Steve Peters, this addition to our parenting library was a ‘must’. Easy to read, applicable and family friendly, its a must for parents, teachers, coaches and mentors, or simply oneself.
Here, the bridge between the adult and child mind is crossed with incisive background knowledge that compares the differences. Ten useful habits for children and adults alike follow, to share and develop together as a family.
